I never saw them live but in Swindon there was the Band of Gypsies who like every other band were previously called Lonely Planet Boys. I had a 3 track tape which sounded like a Hendrix-y Dogs D'Amour. Some of them went on to Tiny Monroe & I hear they now play in an alt-country band in Swindon but I've forgotten the name.

That tape stood out to me as they deserved more. That said, I can think of probably another 30 bands who were around at the time & I'd rather have seen troubling the charts as opposed to Vanilla Ice or whoever was around at the time. Ironically half of us appear to be on this forum!

<font size="4" face="Arial">You're right - they're now The Snakes. Most of them now feign embarrassment about the Band of Gypsies. The Lonely Planet Boys acheived a degree of 'fame' as they once supported the Dogs in Bristol (at the Bridge Inn I think), which was filmed and made widely available at record fairs back in the late 80s/early 90s including the Lonely Planet Boys set.

I feign embarrassment about going down Bristol bridge wearing leopard skin leggings under a pair of heavily ripped trousers coming home, pissing in my cowboy boot & passing out in the hall but it don't change the fact that it happened!!

Yes, and he just oozed ROCKSTAR too. Like Diamond Dave, but with a better voice, and by all accounts....cooler. I'm just glad I got to witness it live.
Carl, did you download that MLB live queen cover, I'm in love with my car, from that link that Randy gave us on the melodicrock site?
    Great cover that was!

I got to see MLB open for The Dogs D'Amour, and then hung out with both bands after the show. On stage at first, having never seen MLB or knowing anything about them, Andy at first came across as an arrogant jerk, but as show went on, you really caught on to what was going on, and just how great he was. The other star of the show was Greg, the drummer. He "wowed" everybody in the place and actually got the biggest reaction when the introduced the band. Wonder why he never went on, and why Bruce didn't follow "The Jam" guys.
